There’s this idea that if a woman is underweight then it must be because she’s slavishly buying into the media-promoted idea that slim is beautiful. As such, all skinny women must be airheads whose only concern is looking pretty for their men. This is, not to put too fine a point on it, a giant crock of steaming bullshit. …
… What is a “real” woman anyway? What’s the difference between a real woman and a fake woman? What right does anyone have to comment on whether anyone else is a “real” woman? …
…If you say that women must be curvy to be laudable then you’re no better than the media that’s saying exactly the same thing except replacing “curvy” with “slim”. You’re putting out some arbitrary standard and diminishing those who don’t fit to it. …
…As I said, I recognise that this is not the intent, but if you’re the sort of person who says that sort of thing, then please think about what you’re doing. Think to yourself, “is what I’m actually saying here really the same as what I want to say?”
The last thing that anyone needs on this issue is even more divisiveness. The “real women have curves” idea just further promotes the split into “us” and “them”. The split was started by the “slim is beautiful” idea of the media, but then perpetuated by the “real women have curves” idea. All that’s changed between the two is which side is the “us” and which side is the “them”.

Yeah, all of this. Especially this:
